Dear Parents,
I just wanted to let you know that the Dentist talk last Wednesday was very informative.
Key messages are:
- There is no need to buy toothpaste that is branded per age (this is marketing gimmick!)
- Check that your toothpaste has a sodium fluoride content of between 1,000 – 1,450 ppm
- Do not use toothpaste for a child under 2
- Use soft to medium bristle brush and change when bristles start to turn out
- Hold toothbrush like you would a pen (not a fist grip) and massage area where tooth meets gum (both inside & out) gently
- Parent needs to brush teeth for child under age 7 and continue supervise for age over 7
- Brush twice per day
- Milk and water is best
- Do not use juices for snacking and do not give juice or milk in a bottle or cup throughout the day. Have drink at mealtimes. Use water if child is thirsty throughout day.
I have some handouts to give out.
Thanks
Margaret
